There a difference Bel. I said I belonged to Tapanuli right? I think I was wrong because, as you said, all Bataknese came from that area. You elaborated further more when you said those coming from eastern part of the province are predominantly Melayu.

I previously thought people from eastern part of the province can be called Bataknese as well, which led me to say that I am Bataknese from Tapanuli instead of from eastern part of the province.

My knowledge about my Bona Pasogit is a disgrace.

I don’t know. My dad call them Maya-maya (Melayu). The eastern part of the province is predominantly Malay, I guess. (?)

Anyway, what exactly are we talking about? I don’t see any essential differences in our statements. ??

Exactly. Hmmm, I did not get you.

Like you said, Tapanuli refers to the west coast of the Province and it’s where Batak people originated from. Medan, Asahan, and Rantau Prapat are not “Tapanuli” (like I said). And mentioning Tarutung instead of Tapanuli would have not changed my point of view as we in fact came from the same place. Hahaha.

No, as far as I know, Tapanuli refers only to the area in Western part of the province. Hardly hear people use that term when they refer to the East Coast. CMIIW. To be more specific, I should’ve mentioned Tarutung instead of Tapanuli.

My dad worked as a government employee and was dispatched there for three years. We maintained a great relationship with those guys in Caltex, haha, they were kind enough to let us fly to Jakarta every weekend for free by their plane. My mom was still finishing her graduate school in Jakarta on that time.

Haha, the name Yuki was picked randomly.

So you lived in Dumai? I spent a month there as an intern at PT Pertamina. Why did you live there? Your dad worked for Pertamina? Or Caltex?

Anyway, where did the name “Yuki Tobing” come from? Medan? Hahaha.

Tapanuli kampung lo? Hahaha kampung semua orang Batak, sher. And at the moment I’m already in Tarutung, my homeland (and yours, I guess.) Hehehe.

when I was still living in Dumai (Riau), I used to travel by car from Dumai to Medan, at least once a month. I was still 5 on that time.

kind of forget about Rantau Prapat, but I remember I always went through this city on our way to Medan.

and yeah, that Suzuya plaza sounds so Japanese. if you notice, in Medan there arehero/carrefour-like supermarkets called Yuki, that also sounds Japanese.
