Arthemia: Free versus Premium Comparison

For the last 3 week, I’ve been receiving many emails asking the difference between both versions of Arthemia. Some seemed to be confused, referring the free version to the premium version, and one was even trying to get the free version by purchasing the premium version! It is true that Wordpress theme reviewers out there categorized Arthemia Free as a ‘premium’ theme already, considering the layout and features the theme has. But somehow, everything became a bit complicated after I released the ‘pro’ version of Arthemia and named it: Arthemia ‘Premium’. Ahh.. :)

Frankly speaking, I have two version of Arthemia; the free version was released on May 2, 2008 while the premium version was released on August 18, 2008. If you want to get a glimpse of the theme, here is the demo page of Arthemia Free and this one is for Arthemia Premium. The most significant difference between the two versions is the theme administration panel, which is included in the premium version. Arthemia Free users would probably be familiar to experiencing the time-consuming installation and configuration as they have to deal with ‘invisible’ category ID in WP 2.5+ and the never-ending frustration caused by the Post Custom Field while trying to assign thumbnail for posts. Novice users would find everything even more difficult as they do not have enough skill and knowledge about PHP, (X)HTML, and CSS to do all the stuff. Then, the theme administration panel is the one-stop-solution to address all those issues.

And this is the side-by-side comparison of the themes:

I love this theme – is it possible to buy the 1 or 5-site licence and upgrade to the developer pack at a later date?

h?mm interesting but this template is wondurful :?:

  • Thomas says:

I am like everyone here very satisfied whit this theme. Howerver I do have af question. How du I limit the article on the frontpage. It is displayed in its full lenght. Isn´t there a way to show only the resumé of the newest article on the frontpage. Just like this – How is it done? http://www.beingmrs.com

    • paul says:

did you figure it out? i’d like to know as well. the latest post is displayed in it’s full length on the front page. i would like to limit it.

I’m running my blog (http://www.beingmrs.com) with arthemia premium and currently working on my other blog using arthemia2. ;)

  • Time Tracker says:

Nice dev. work here. It’s great to see more and more wordpress templates being used as complete CMS. Great work.

  • i4nBudi says:

wow… kalo bisa aku dikasih yang premium secara cuma cuma… wkwkwkkwkwkwkwk…

  • Michela says:

I just love you theme. Period.
    Amazing work.
Feature you include in premium one simply worth the tiny price.
However I have to say way you wrote some people expected to get Arthemia free after paying.
I think it is way more clean and less cluttered.
Or, at least, it suits more my needs.
I think I’ll go for it, trying to personalize it myself.
    Thank you for your work
    Michela

    WOW!!
I missed the launch Michael, I got big appreciation from the Arthemia free version and was really looking for something like arthemia premium. Count me in mate, soon I will drop an order mail ;)
Between, May I know that is arthemia permium is customizable? like can I change its colors and looks to my need? is it easy to do so? and what about the footer copyright, do I need to buy any permission to take it off?

  • Joe says:

What do we need to tell our servers to make sure the thumbnails show up? Only getting blank white squares where thumbnails should be.

  • Martin says:

Hallo. It looks like one of my questions in the forum It is nice from you that you made a chart like this. Looks realy good! Although there are a lot of NO NOs a person with some php + plugins should be able to run it like the premium.

PS: Wha have you used to generate such a nice comparision table.

  • Stu says:

Oh sorry, forgot to add where you can see the test blog I installed. Here’s the url:

    Thanks again.

  • Stu says:

I’ve installed the free version as a test blog to show a potential client of mine. However, no matter what I do, I cannot get the homepage to show up as a separate static page.

I’ve selected the static page radio button and one of the pages I created previously as the “Front Page:

Now what I get is the homepage and the other page I created are the same.

How can I create a separate static homepage with it’s own unique content and still keep the page I created as a separate page too?

This set up is paramount to the set up of the blog for my client and is the only sticking point between them purchasing the upgrade.

Hope this all makes sense and is the right place to ask for advice.

Thanks in advance and thanks for a great template.

I too prefer the look of the free theme, but I presume you could achieve that with the premium version — you just get more options, I’m guessing, which they are trying to show off here. Right? :???:

  • Michael says:

@Oscar: well, that tutorial is in progess. :)

  • Oscar says:

I purchased the premium veriosn and, as a first time wrdpres user, just love it… praise!
However, I would like to localize it to a Dutch version. Any feedback appreciated on which files I need to process?

  • wendi says:

Ahh! I am torn. I love the look of the free theme but the features of other premium theme. I do have a question: The categories have sub categories right? I was hoping to see an example of a subcategory list in the sidebar after click on a pick. Let me know.

  • Marisa says:

    Definitely worth every cent.

  • Rashed says:

Thanks again for the nice theme.

One question, how can I localize the numbers? I mean, I can localize everything based on the original .pot file. But I could not find anything so that the digits are shown in my language. Help me plz. :)
